It was a random day last tuesday 22/11/2011. Me and Script hitchhike over to Bt Batok Skate areas to finish up our leftover paints. It was rather hot so we decided to just come by late afternoon..

As usual, i did my best to visualise my SnapBack Army dude as best as i can.. It was extremely hard seeing that i rarely paint bigger then i sually do, especially with almost the whole body and leg showing..

Haha, Took my time thsi time trying my best to gain composition while looking at my watch, steadying myself not to paint to fast(I have a tendency to paint faster then anyone around me)

It was really getting dark fast and this was the best pic i could take after we are done for the day, i really would love to take a clearer pic but hell it was raining the whole day after and work has already commence the day after that..

Anyway, much love to Script for bearing with my antics as usual and also much respect to him for stayiing true to his one love for graffiti..

Well, Nothing much goin on today.. Had a blast painting yesterday at Bt Batok wit fellow mate, Script One. Just something random to clear out the half ass empty cans laying about at home..

Haha, Got a lil warning from Script to paint a lil slower then my usual pace and i obliged.. taking slow easy step instead of rushing tru my work like i used to. :) Anyway, it was great. Will definitely post some pics once i got back my SD Card Reader( Left it at work). :)

Well, Today has being quite a boring yet productive day for me. Just finish up my PDF artist portfolio for 2012 to be submitted to NOISE Singapore. Finger's cross i got another slot to showcase my work next year as well as sell some merchandise. :) I was thinking of badges, stickers and maybe A3 size prints? Im still thinking about it..

Mas and Script has been pestering me learn on how to sent my work tru postage overseas since thats where most of prints and artwork goes.. But im really not a technology buff and doing all dis seemingly important stuff is rally scaring me. beside i dont have the time to do all that here..

I know, i know its all excuses on my side. but hey, i will eventually learn how to do it.. :) Just give me some time to set evrything up one thing at a time..

I have a few things i need to deal with.. My Debit Card, My PayPal (Yes, i do not have a paypal as of yet), a online store with any reputable site such as Etsy, BigCartel or StoreEnvy.. and my blog(This One) is in a mess..

And also, being really itching to Revamp a major overhaul in my tiny room since im dead serious in doin canvas work and god knows i need the space in my room..

So till i have settle all this major issue in my artistic chaotic life, feel free to appreciate my art for now.. :)

Well, Another hectic day as of today.. It's beginning to dawn on me that being a themepark caricaturist is no mean feat.
But don't get me wrong, i love drawing faces now.. it sure is a lot of fun, different faces pose new challenges and as days pass, i do realise i get better. My colors, my pace, the strokes.. You just seem to be more confident with each stroke.

Anyways, there's some advantages to my own personal art side too.. more time to doodle at work. a chance to explore..

Been experimenting with this new character traits and been uploading small doodles here n there on Instagram. Amazingly, i've been gettng quite a number of positive response and that alone with some encouragement from my good friends and Boo of course, have make me explore further extensively to developed this particular character trait..

Introducing SnapBack Army. :) Kind of love at first sight when i started doodling this dude.. and i guess the "LIKES" at Instagram says they like it too.. :)

So be sure to see more and more of this dude coming out.. :)

ITE Tampines (MVAC) Grafitti Crash Course

Just as the title suggest, it was indeed a really crash course on graffiti, more or less not about the history but to do what i can input with very very limited resources within a short span of one day to teach basic spray painting techniques to this bunch of enthusiatic students, who have never touch a spray paint in their life..

And the pressure is amounting since this very same bunch will be showcasing alongside some of the best street talents during the Yfest 2011 which will be in like the very next day.. yes!!! The very next day...

It was a two day of mayhem whereby my partner Script gave a talk on Graffiti to further familiarize the students and prepare them for whats coming..

Ya i know they sucks.. hahaha.. but no one become an artist within one workshop.. :)

So that's how we monkey around and the long awaited pics of how they did for the showcase? here's the flicks.. :)

I think they did quite well.. Im quite happy and kinda impress to see something tasteful despite being new.. :)

On Saturday 13th August 2011, Libre collaborated with the STG brothers to bring the house down at the Espalanade Yfest2011 whereby other great teams came down and showcase their talent using spray paints to the public..

The organiser made it more challenging by donning barriers and obstruct the smooth flow of our work..

Blank Canvas 3

11 June 2011, The Cathay presents, Blank Canvas 3 - Battle of the crews. An annual graffiti competition. Last year they held a graffiti battle where graffiti writers head on one on one, but this year, they're bringing in the big guns, as crew versus crew at the Cathay's courtyard opposite Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. Crews from around the island merge and gave their life for this epic battle for the grand prize, crews like Titan Aerosol Creation and ArrowSoul Warriors were one of them. And RSCLS (ANTZ, ZERO and CLOGTWO) were there to showcase and judge as the crews unleash the beast.

Temporary Crew LNL came together once again to compete against the best of the other crew can conjure for this awaited event.

And we emerge the winner!! WooHOOOOO!!!! Special thanks to Locase(STG) and NewOne for the great collaboration..

And here's a few pictures of the competitors.
First up we have LibreNewoneLocase (LNL) who emerge as Champions. Second goes to: The Kotels, consist of S13, Asno and Dopes. And third place was taken by SBC, which crew members are, Stranger, Blynk and Beat.

Adidas All 24 2011

Hot on the heels of the launch of its milestone global brand campaign entitled “adidas is all in”, adidas is kick-starting the registration for participants for its epic 24-hour celebration of sport, street and style as part of the next phase of the campaign launch.

Taking place in six cities across the region including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines, the event in Singapore will be held at popular youth hub *SCAPE on May 21, from 8pm to 8pm the next day.

In celebration of street style, adidas has organised the “allgraffiti” activity, which will have established graffiti artists such as Zero, Antz, Killer Gerbil and MrB come together and showcase their works on a 15-meter wall that will be worked on throughout the event. Graffiti art enthusiasts are also encouraged to register to design their own works on blank A-frames that will be provided by adidas. The top two graffiti artists will be selected by a combination of votes from the established graffiti artists as well as the public and get a chance to collaborate with the above-mentioned graffiti artists in an Art Battle Show-Down to take place later during all24 event.

As part of the entire event, Pure Libre was part of the registered artists to compete alongside one of the best that Singapore has to offer.

Well, Unfortunately, i wasn't able to emerge a winner this time round but it was one whole event i would not forget. here are the flicks taken from various peeps i gather online as well as a few of mine.. Enjoy...

NOISE 2011 Group Showcase

I was again given the opportunity to showcase my new style of illustration for the NOISE 2011 SHOWCASE held at ION Orchard basement 4..

The theme and concept for this year's Showcase Exhibition, is Noise City. It is to be the noise central and heart of all noise-makers.
Vibrant. Noisy. Fun.

Where visitors can immerse and truly explore. The exhibition is inspired by Times Square, New York & Shibuya, Tokyo - so imagine a 'city' of varying buildings full of artwork, streets, billboards and signages! There will even be a park and city square for performing acts. The exhibition will run from 17 February - 7 March.

NOISE have put aside an area to showcase my work , and their brief is to work my magic on this given Billboard space that will be perched on top of the 'buildings'.

I guess it stands out enough...

Hi peeps, sorry for the extra long hibernation.. it has been a crazy week for me and thus the one major reason why i failed to upload anything much here..

but fret not, things are well and going for me.. hibernation from the net is good in the creative world. To me, it means, WORK!!! and more WORK means more $$$Ka-Ching!!!!. hahah

Anyway, as you can see, my love for graffiti has to be side step on a temporary basis and voila, digital painting, Sketches of caricature is in order..

but Graffiti is still a side of me no one can take apart.. :)

But hey, its not a nad thing, caricaturing, sketching is extremely good and worth it.. and from what is ee from my past drawings till now, it seems, caricaturing and tonnes of sketching have improve my drawing tremendously..

it was suppsoed to promote art within the islam community within Singapore, and what other way then to propose aerosol arabic..

did two canvas for the event..

Event was attended by 200 people with much delighted response...

LA Photographer Cleared of Criminal Charges

LA photographer Jonas Lara had his day in court today. The criminal charges against him were dropped and the judge issued a court order for the release of his camera equipment, which had been held as evidence since his arrest on February 2, 2010.

Lara was fighting a charge of aiding and abetting two graffiti artists whose work he was documenting when the three men were arrested in South Central Los Angeles. (More on the case here.)

The photographer established a legal fund and appealed for donations after he was unable to convince his public defender that his rights as a photographer to document the work of the artists had some bearing on the case against him.

In just over a week, enough friends and colleagues in the photo community responded with donations for Lara to pay the retainer for The Kavinoky Law Firm, a group of California-based criminal lawyers.

Joel Koury, the attorney who represented Lara in court this morning, says his strategy was to “go in with guns blazing,” which caught the prosecutor off guard, because key evidence—pictures that the police claimed they took showing Lara’s hands with paint on them—had apparently gone missing. Koury says he doubts that the police ever took them.

The prosecutor, judge and Koury then discussed a formal diversion plea for the vandalism charge, which would have required Lara to perform community service over the course of 18 months before the case would be dismissed. Koury told the judge he would talk to Lara about agreeing to a six-month probationary period, but instead Lara and the attorney decided to stay on the offensive, refused the deal and pushed for a trial.

Koury also showed the prosecutor character letters colleagues had written on Lara’s behalf, proof that Lara was in art school and had published books of his work, and proof that he had a photography business registered with the IRS.

“We’re not talking about some gang member, we’re talking about an actual photojournalist,” Koury says he told the prosecutor. “Just because a photojournalist takes a picture of someone committing a crime does not turn the photographer into a criminal,” he adds.

The prosecutor then offered to knock the charge down to trespassing and agree to an informal diversion plea, but again Lara and his attorney refused.

Koury says he asked the prosecutor what was really important to her in the case, and she responded that the property owner had paid $200 to have the graffiti murals cleaned off the wall of the building.

Koury says that though he believes he would have beat the trespass charge in a jury trial, he offered at Lara’s behest to agree to have Lara pay the $200 restitution fee to the property owner in exchange for the charge being reduced to a disturbing the peace infraction.

Though Koury says he feels “a little bad” that Lara paid the restitution, the deal guaranteed Lara could walk away from court today with no criminal record rather than having to go through a jury trial.

The LAPD has still refused to return Lara’s camera equipment despite the judge’s order. When Lara went to the police station to retrieve his equipment the police were “really pissed off,” he says, and attempted to question him further about the February 2 incident.

Koury says it is just a case of “cops being a little bit stubborn.” He expects Lara should have his gear back in a day or so.

Lara first met with and hired The Kavinoky Law Firm yesterday afternoon. The firm, which typically commands retainers in the five figures, agreed to represent Lara for far less “because we were pissed off,” Koury says. “It was ridiculous that [a photojournalist] would find himself in that position.”

SMRT Fiasco:

Recently, two foreign professionals, Swiss national Oliver Fricker and Briton Lloyd Dane Alexander broke into SMRT Changi Depot and vandalized a train with graffiti. Fricker was arrested a few days after a video of the vandalized train appeared on Youtube, while Alexander has fled the country. The Singapore government has since put in an extradition request to the British government for him to be brought back to Singapore to stand trial.

Despite the obvious breach in security, SMRT staff still allowed the vandalized train to operate, oblivious to the true nature of the so-called “work of art” on it, at least until the video appeared on Youtube. This by itself is astonishing: what is more shocking is that apparently SMRT’s security staff failed to notice the huge hole in the fence the two vandals cut in order to enter the depot. That at least was the impression that the company gave, seeing as how it took them two days to file a police report over the incident. After all, one would logically expect them to report any major security breaches such as this one to the police immediately instead of waiting for a public uproar to take place first.

The vandalism itself is not really an issue. While still a criminal act, nonetheless, at worst it was nothing more than a harmless (and admittedly highly artistic) prank. Certainly, while the two miscreants responsible should be appropriately punished for it, the government has clearly missed out on the real issue here, namely what sort of security does SMRT have in place at its premises that two bored young men could make a complete fool of it publicly.

In all honesty, the two men had actually done Singaporeans a monumental favor with their stunt. If they had not pulled it off, ordinary Singaporeans would have remained blissfully oblivious to the wholesale complacency and slipshod security within SMRT. If nothing else, it shows just how stupid if not outright dangerous the “deaf frog” mentality espoused by high-ranking government officials such as NTUC chief Lim Swee Say can really be. The fact of the matter is that problems don’t go away simply because top officials choose to ignore them or any criticisms of their policies. Instead, they simply fester on and grow in scale until events such as these expose them publicly. And sometimes these events can have humiliating or even catastrophic consequences such as the stalling of the Singapore Flyer or the collapse of Nicoll Highway.

Predictably, SMRT does not view it this way. Miffed at being publicly humiliated, the company has engaged in a major damage control exercise. There’s just one slight problem: unable or unwilling to admit its errors, the company’s attempts at damage control has only succeeded in raising heckles even more, even bordering on farcical. In fact, the excuses it has come up with to explain the debacle away can easily be summed up in three words: dumb and dumber.

Dumb:

Allowing the vandalized train to be put into service instead of being taken out for a thorough inspection. After all, given the elaborate nature of the graffiti, it must have taken some time for it to be sprayed on. If the culprits had meant to carry out something worse than a mere prank, they would have had ample time to sabotage the train. Putting it back into service without a thorough inspection shows blatant complacency on the company’s part at the very least.

Dumber:

The company’s explanation that its staff thought that the graffiti was an officially-commissioned “work of art”. So what was SMRT really trying to say here, that its own personnel don’t know what was actually happening in the company? If this really was a public relations campaign of some sort, one would expect that at the very least, staff from the Corporate Communications, Rolling Stock and Traffic departments would be kept informed of it. After all, the Rolling Stock Section is responsible for carrying out maintenance of the trains, the Traffic Department operates them and the Corporate Communications Department would orchestrate such a campaign. Surely they must know then that this was no such artwork.

Dumb:

The shoddy security at the depot that allowed the two perpetrators to pull off their stunt. Are close-circuit television systems installed at the depot? If so, then why weren’t they reviewed daily? This at least would have exposed the breach in security immediately. And how exactly do the security guards carry out their patrols that they could miss out on a gaping hole in the fence? Or did they in fact notice it and simply ignored it or dismissed it as nothing? If this is the case, then this beggars the question of what sort of training the guards received, and what sort of drills if any the company puts them through. And it definitely raises the question of how the company selected the security service in the first place and how it reviews the security service’s performance.

Dumber:

SMRT President Mdm Saw Phaik Hua’s comment that the security breach showed why it was vital that the public should maintain vigilance at all times. In case she didn’t realize it, the train wasn’t vandalized while it was in service; it was vandalized while parked in Changi Depot, which is scarcely a public place. Does she actually believe it would be possible for members of the public to spot troublemakers in action in a facility that they have no access to when her own security service failed to do so? For that matter, according to the company’s spokespersons, the train was allowed to be put into service because the staff thought that the graffiti was a work of art similar to that commissioned by SingPost on its post boxes to promote the Youth Olympic Games. If this is really the case as they claim, then how on Earth does Mdm Saw expect members of the public to recognize an act of vandalism on the trains when the company’s own staff cannot? And for that matter, doesn’t this prove that she should shoulder a far greater share of the blame than ordinary commuters? After all, unlike members of the public, she has access to Changi Depot where the crime was committed, and she definitely would know if the graffiti was supposed to be there or not.

Dumb:

The ludicrous excuses the company came up with to explain the debacle as listed above. Dumber: That anyone in the company would actually believe that ordinary Singaporeans are stupid enough to believe the ridiculous nonsense that they tried to pass off as explanations for this debacle.

SMRT should realize that the public’s confidence in it has been badly shaken by this incident. One can hardly fault any member of the public for this, for one would shudder to think about what sort of dire consequences there could had been had the two pranksters been terrorists out to sabotage the trains instead. This is especially so since JI mastermind Mas Selamat Kestari had actually targeted Yishun Station for a terrorist bombing attack, so it is not simple paranoia on the part of the public. It is of paramount importance now for SMRT to act swiftly and prudently to restore the public’s confidence in itself; unfortunately, the company appears bent on insulting the public’s intelligence in its overzealous attempts to divert blame from itself instead. And the company’s response to this whole fiasco can be summed up in three words: dumb and dumber.
